Movement Lessons

sitstandflyAwareness Through Movement (ATM)® and Feldenkrais lessons, including Bones for Life, taught privately or in groups, teach movement sequences that can help address many issues in our bodies. Lessons can be designed to:

  • build greater flexibility in the hips, shoulders and the spine,
  • release jaw pain, headaches, and tightness through upper back and shoulders,
  • keep low back supported by strong legs and stable feet,
  • increase flexibility through feet, ankles, knees and hips,
  • and overall improve flexibility, balance, and grace.

Lessons are designed for people of all ages and abilities and explore subtle and interesting movements while laying down, sitting, and standing. Movements are slow and easy, usually very relaxing (sometimes hypnotic). It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothes and bring a small pillow.

All of these lessons can be private lessons, lessons for several people, or lessons for a larger group of people. These are usually held in homes or central meeting places. Contact Judi by email to schedule these types of lessons or give her a call at (319) 541-6957.

Movement Classes

sitstandflyJudi Clinton teaches a variety of Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) classes. These are usually in small groups and are held in homes or central meeting places. Judi schedules these as her schedule and the needs of her clients permit.

ATM® classes are lessons of movement sequences designed to improve flexibility, balance, and grace. People of all ages and abilities will be taught ways of working with the sequences in an appropriate manner. The classes explore subtle and interesting movements while laying down, sitting, and standing. “To make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy elegant,” Moshe Feldenkrais.

Moving with Ease ATM Workshop

Details: Flexibilitiy through our feet, ankles, knees and hips is essential for pain-free walking, standing and moving through our day. This Feldenkrais class will teach you gentle movement sequences to keep low back supported by strong legs and stable feet. This is a great warm-up for the golf and tennis season, and also for the gardeners. Whether you are new to a good walk every day or already have an exercise routine, you will walk away with some great ways to improve your movement.

Releasing Shoulders, Neck, and Jaw Workshop

Date: TBD

Details: This class is designed for anyone who experiences tension or pain in the shoulders, neck or jaw. Whiplash, braces, poor posture, and too much time looking at the computer can cause compression of the neck, TMJ, and cranial bones. In this Feldenkrais class, you will learn some easy movements to release jaw pain, headaches, tightness through upper back and shoulders.
